The DAKS Autumn/Winter 14 collection will see an extension of the Guilds of Britain theme to celebrate the 120th Anniversary of DAKS Simpson. In particular the Guild of the Merchant Taylors who are situated on Threadneedle Street close to Middlesex Street, where the origins of DAKS started 120 years ago.
Three stories are explored within the theme this season. Firstly, the ‘Saville Row Attitude’ provides the inspirations for the formalwear in the collection, aiming to capture DAKS’ opulent 120 year heritage of classic British tailoring and draws upon the rich DAKS archive and spirt of the work by DAKS illustrator Max Hoff.
The second story is ‘Informal Sartorialism’ bringing an informal yet refined look that encapsulates the elegant city men and women in more relaxed attire. Taking inspirations from the original DAKS design ethos of innovation in design it translates tailored bespoke looks and notions into a look of informal sophistication to create an effortless elegance.
The final story is based on not only the DAKS history of tailoring British officers with their uniform and civilian wardrobe but also Guilds the Merchant Taylors who like many other Guilds introduced their own clothing into the uniform to distinguish themselves from the other Guilds and promote the skills of their trade. This story referred to as ‘The Officer’ will take this tradition and focus on offering a progressive look inspired by military uniforms of the past.
