A RELATIONSHIP WITH TENNIS

Within the DAKS history, sport has always played a major part. And in homage to this year’s Wimbledon Championships, we take a look back at our strong history within the world of tennis.

‘As the shrewdest selectors of tennis fashion’, the DAKS Simpsons Piccadilly store was always a destination for tennis enthusiasts looking for their next outfit. In 1974 and 1975 DAKS became the official outfit sponsor for the British Teams in the Davis Cup and Wightman Cup respectively. In particular, British Grand Slam champion Virginia Wade who played in the Wightman Cup team that year.

Creating not just a collection of outfits suitable for the tennis player, DAKS Simpsons Piccadilly also stocked tennis equipment from leading makers too. Throughout the years, this collection was showcased in the seasonal mail order catalogue and advertised in publications such as the Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Programme.

Alongside this, DAKS supported Wimbledon by hosting a pre-Wimbledon reception in the DAKS Simpsons Piccadilly store inviting players and celebrities to celebrate the games. Big sporting names such as Stan Smith, Roger Taylor, Chris Evert, Margaret Court and Evonne Goolagong Cawley were in attendance.
